a request, if you please

am i the only one who thought, "we are siame-ese, if you don't please," after reading that title? really? c'mon, guys.

we're requesting your best vibes to the universe in the next couple of days. for those of you who are into that sort of thing, i am also accepting old-fashioned prayers (on our behalf, of course; please don't actually pray to us, as that would not be productive for anyone).

yesterday brought lots and lots of contractions--2-5 minutes apart for an hour or so. boo--that didn't go away with several hours of lying down and drinking water, so we headed to the hospital instead of to bed. there were no doctors at that hour, and the nurses didn't do any checks other than the heartbeat--which is still good and strong, thankfully--but told me to call if i had any problems. my 7 contractions during our 45-minute visit apparently didn't count. sigh.

so i'm on a trial bed rest until my next appointment on thursday, when i will plead for any kind of exam. i'm to drink lots of water and take some antibiotics for a week to see if an infection is the culprit behind these darlings. it's almost noon, and i've had only 5 or 6 contractions so far today, so here's hoping.

i know everything will be okay. i just don't know what okay is yet. so i'd appreciate your thoughts and prayers that my uterus will start to mind her manners and act like a lady around our little gentleman, because he's not sufficiently cooked just yet. another, you know, 18 weeks should do it. oy ve!

also... any ideas about what to do this week while i'm rehearsing for my debut role as broadway's first beached whale would be wildly received. i'm about 5 hours in and am already feeling nigh to bursting with feelings of ineptitude. you know you're pathetic when your gimp husband is making breakfast for you. what a sorry little circus act we are! at least there's still that to make me laugh, which i do every time nick appears with a frying pan teeming with oddly-shaped chopped foods tottering from his one good hand while the other waves a thumbs-up above his head at me. perfect boy.

but to close with better news: nick had a good interview yesterday. it doesn't mean he's getting a job, but it was a bright spot after several discouraging ones. and so we go on. i think this period in our lives might be the one our kids will enjoy mocking us for someday. that's what i'm telling myself, anyway.

smooches to you all, and blessings on your heads!

Oh goodness. You have lots of prayers over here! LOTS! Tell him he isn't going anywhere unless he wants to answer to me. Lots of wrath involved. Ha. Just kidding. Seriously though. Lots of prayers girl.

we're praying for you!

to pass the time you can connect with "keep 'em cookin' ": http://twitter.com/#!/keepemcookin and http://www.keepemcookin.com/. they've got a chat room full of bored women on bedrest :-) plus, the woman behind the twitter account gave me lots of good info on irritable uterus and what kinds of questions i should be asking my OB at my visits.

if there's any way i can help you (info, just want to vent to someone who has been there), my email is maya.m.zimmerman @ gmail.com
