Hello, is this Mr. Morrill?

Yes, why? Because you won a micwowave! (Yeah, sure I did) -What do you mean? Because of the promotion, Mr. Morrill, at Home Sukkopan you get a micwowave.... Needless to say it was for real! And I got to step up to a whole new level of Thainess in order to bring it home.

Well, the weekly house update is long overdue. The roof is officially 95% done, we even have trim now. We just need to add some siding material under the overhang. The lame part about it is that the frequency of rain has decreased exponentially with respect to the percent completion of our roof. I thought I would share a sight I thought was never to come:

The rain has completely quit. พ่อ's farm is already low on water. Apparently, the reason our house flooded before was because when the reservoir was full, they opened the flood gates. I guess there isn't enough funding to mechanize this action and they had to open the gate until it was empty. So... even though we have had the most rain in 10 years, the farmers in this valley are still struggling to save their crop from lack of water. Also, it hasn't rained once since the roof was finished. I was so excited to finally get it done so we could work while it was raining... The good news is that our house has begun its makeover.

I also did some work on the bathroom water. I'm sure you're dying to know that in thailand step 3 never requires any pre-work during step 2. You just finish step 2 and then undo what you need to make step 3 work... even if it requires cutting into your structural supports.....? (It sure takes the planning out of the fun!) Don't worry mom, it won't fall down, we've used a lot of cement.

Anyway, to extend this post beyond another string of pictures about the house, I figure I'll tell you about my day. It was sports day, commonly known as "saports day" (Thai people can't pronounce two consonants in a row to save their lives, it's so cute). This means we went to a huge stadium outside of Chiang Mai and the whole school was split into different colors (5 colors I believe) They were grouped according to color as if they were to cheer for their color in each competition. At this point you are thinking, "yeah, it's just like field day." Oh... so different. The whole day, there were cheer leading routines, dances, and strange mixtures of the two in the middle of the field with abnoxious collages of hideous music. During all of this cheerleading, in the small strips of grass between the outer edge of the track and the stands, there were random sports like the long and high jumps, and shot put. the best part is that shot put was so far away that you couldn't even see who the people were OR that they were throwing anything. It was the most backwards an event could be from the typical worshiping of sports and allowance of cheerleading we see in America... Also, I have discovered that the concept of homosexuality in Thailand is not weird. Soooo the cheerleading events had some really flambunctious boys. yes i just made that word up because no other exists in my limited resource base to describe it. and on that note, sweet dreams!

We had a mini field day at our school once and they had a bicycle race to see who could peddle the slowest without falling over. So backwards... Congratulations on the microwave! But... What are you doing to use it for?
