an excerpt

from class tonight. we teach a free english class to kids who want to go to byu hawaii on tuesday, thursday, saturday nights. can't remember if i've shared that before.

anyway, tonight we played that game where you sit in a circle and everyone says one sentence to continue an ever-evolving story. yes?

"yesterday, i went to the hospital."
"i saw the doctor, and he said i needed to exercise more."
"i said, 'no, i don't like the exercise."
"and he said, 'but you're so fat!'"
aside, from an out-of-turn-er: "no! i so slim!"
"and then he say i got the diarrhea."
in thai, from the general populace: "eh?"
"no! i got the diabetes! the diabetes!"

i like our kidlets.

and then we rolled on home to be greeted by พ่อ, lounging shirtless in his chaise, watching phil collins belting out, "take a look at me now!" in a concert of 80s pop stars (actually, i can't really distinguish any set genre) enjoying another 10 minutes of glory in front of a largely middle-aged female audience. it's a favorite lately in the puntee household. but how could the eagles and john denver--in one sitting!--disappoint?

it took only about 10 minutes for พ่อ to make another appearance in the kitchen while we ate dinner, but this time he struck a pose so we could admire his itsy-bitsy-teenie-weenie flared shorts that were probably originally intended for a 14-year-old girl. he's a fan. but he forbade nick to wear them, ever. too dangerous.

we still like it here.

That story is way better than any I heard in college english, spanish or poly sci class. Carry on.

I just found your gem of a blog elyssa! I think I am going to be up late for the next few nights...I had no idea you were in Thailand and doing all this crazy cool stuff. It doesn't surprise me though. I love it.
