our first visitors!

okay, so they weren't actually coming to visit US in particular, and they did pay for our meal instead of the other way around, but we've had our first (sort of) visitors since our move to the land of a thousand smiles!

meet the behars:

they are our parisian friends who are really quiet and courteous and still, somehow!, a lot of fun ; ) i don't really know how our families can be friends, seeing as the behars are insanely more cultured and tactful (don't believe me? example: when we visited paris, they took us to the eiffel tower and bought us rose-flavored gelato and nutella crepes; when they came to arkansas, we took them to a demolition derby and introduced them to funnel cakes and "turkey legs" the size of small children... as a special treat, me mum told the announcer they had french guests, and he punctuated the rest of the evening with, "THA-YANK YOU FOR FA-RENCH FA-RIES!!!").

anyway, somehow we're friends, and they're touring the country for two weeks, and serendipitously, our different schedules allowed for one free night... 10 minutes after they arrived at their hotel! and they were wonderful sports and let us keep them out late at a noisy riverside restaurant with a thai band doing english covers.

the behars got to experience their first tuk-tuk ride while nick and i got to experience our first nighttime foray in chiang mai on the "motocye."

the craziest thing about this fabulous encounter is that my sweet sister, jamie, is staying in their apartment in paris as i type, and she and her buddy gabirella made them chocolate chip cookies just three days before we ate tom kha gai and geng muu with them!

it is a very small world. thank you, beautiful behars, for a lovely time and for the fanciest dinner we've yet eaten! please do come again!
